I work with people experiencing depersonalisation, derealisation, anxiety, and nervous-system overwhelm in a way that is paced, respectful, and stabilising.
The focus is not on forcing symptoms away, but on supporting the conditions in which the nervous system can settle.
Why Work With Me for Depersonalisation & Derealisation (DPDR)
People living with depersonalisation and derealisation often feel misunderstood, rushed, or frightened by their own experience.
My work offers a steady, informed, and non-alarming approach to DPDR.
A Grounded Understanding of DPDR
I understand DPDR as a protective nervous-system response, not a sign of damage or disorder.
This perspective reduces fear and helps create the conditions in which the system can begin to settle, rather than escalating the experience through over-analysis or pressure to change.
Informed by the 3i Atlas
My approach is informed by the 3i Atlas developed by Dr David Clements, which recognises that:
• survival responses cannot be resolved through insight alone
• regulation comes before reflection
• thinking cannot override a nervous system in threat
This helps ensure work is paced appropriately and matched to what your system can tolerate.
Calm, Containing Sessions
DPDR often intensifies when people feel rushed, examined, or pushed to “feel normal”.
Sessions with me are:
• calm and steady
• non-intrusive
• respectful of limits and pacing
• focused on safety rather than symptom-chasing
Both Professional and Personal Understanding
Alongside professional experience, I have close personal experience of depersonalisation and derealisation within my family. This brings a depth of respect for how real and distressing DPDR can feel, even when it is invisible to others.
No Pressure, No Promises
I do not offer:
• guarantees or timelines
• forced techniques
• alarmist interpretations
• pressure to “fix” the experience
Instead, I offer a reliable, informed therapeutic space where change is allowed to unfold at a pace your nervous system can manage.
Who This Work May Suit
This way of working may suit you if:
• you want to feel understood rather than analysed
• you are overwhelmed by symptom-focused advice
• you want calm, steady support
• you prefer a nervous-system-informed approach
What I Offer
Individual Therapy (1:1)
A confidential, one-to-one space to explore your experience at your own pace.
Sessions may support:
• understanding DPDR as a nervous-system response
• reducing fear around symptoms
• increasing a sense of safety and stability
• addressing anxiety, stress, or overwhelm
• gently rebuilding connection with self and life
Sessions are collaborative and responsive rather than prescriptive.
Nervous-System Informed Support
I work with an understanding that DPDR is not primarily a thinking problem.
Support may include:
• recognising when survival responses are active
• working with the body and attention rather than analysing symptoms
• supporting regulation before reflection
• respecting limits, pacing, and capacity
This approach avoids pushing insight before the system is ready.
Support for Persistent or Long-Standing DPDR
For clients who have lived with DPDR for months or years, therapy can offer:
• a steady, non-alarming framework
• space to work with fear, frustration, or hopelessness
• support with rebuilding trust in the body and mind
• help reducing the cycle of monitoring and self-checking
There is no expectation of “quick fixes”.
Support for Family Members
DPDR does not only affect the person experiencing it.
I also offer space for:
• partners or family members seeking understanding
• people supporting someone with DPDR
• making sense of the experience without minimising it
This can help reduce isolation on both sides.
Integration with Existing Support
If you are:
• already under GP or psychiatric care
• taking medication
• receiving other forms of therapy
My work can sit alongside existing support, with a focus on stabilisation and understanding rather than contradiction or pressure.
What I Don’t Offer
To be transparent, I don’t offer:
• guarantees or timelines
• pressure to “feel normal”
• techniques that force sensation or emotion
• pathologising or alarmist interpretations
The work is about supporting the system, not fixing a broken person.
Is This Right for You?
This way of working may suit you if:
• you want calm, steady support
• you feel overwhelmed by symptom-focused advice
• you want your experience taken seriously without being escalated
• you value pacing and safety over urgency
